Your trademark is the sign that sets your products and services apart and builds a reputation over time. In Turkey, strong protection over that sign comes from registration with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.
How long does registration protect?
Under Industrial Property Law No. 6769, a registered trademark is protected for ten years from the filing date, renewable for further ten-year periods.
What happens after filing?
Once examined, the application is published in the Official Trademark Bulletin. Third parties may oppose it within two months of publication. Monitoring this stage is one of the most critical parts of the process.
You also have to use it
If a registered mark is not used without good reason within five years of registration, or its use is suspended for five uninterrupted years, it can be revoked at the request of an interested party. Registration means most when the mark is actually used.
